Shuggyban Stool
Sweet chestnut, epoxy resin
This experimental stool is made from local sweet chestnut.
I have heavily charred the top for an alligator skin texture.
This I treated with an epoxy resin to solidify and stabilise the surface.
Shou sugi ban is a traditional Japanese technique of treating cedar cladding with flames.
The burning draws the woods oils to the surface and helps protect it from the elements.
